So, we found ourselves on our way to Changi Airport on a fine Monday afternoon and had our brunch there before flying off.
It was a nightmarish four-hour flight with three inconsiderate Chinese passengers who were hollering at the top of their voices throughout, with the one sitting behind me having a knack for kicking my seat. I would use expletives to further describe the flight but.....let's keep things cordial.
We had our stay over at Kowloon Hotel that was located right on top of Tsim Sha Tsui MTR.
The bathtub is not shown in this photo!
Dinner was horrendous, thanks to Pops for ordering two carbo, and the omelette with bitter gourd did wonders to my already-pounding head. After buying umbrellas to protect ourselves from the rain in the next few days, and walking around Tsim Sha Tsui, we had an early night.
The next morning, we had dim sum for breakfast!
Also, we were advised to not go for any sight-seeing tours due to the volatile weather. It was a shame as The Peak was in our itinerary!
It was always raining over there, with short breaks in between.
Took their MTR to Sham Shui Po for a look around!
Chanced upon this fat cat who was sitting in front of its owner's store like a boss. I have never seen anything like it, what with its tummy and unwavering gaze at people who stop by.
Had a meat platter at some random restaurant, and they had forgotten to serve us goose meat, much to my parents' and my chagrin! My parents' because they had to miss it in a meal, and mine because we have to eat such platters again. I can not really say that I agree with the food served at Hong Kong. Their dishes are usually filled with so much oil that I can never have more than one serving of food from one plate.
Goose meat!
This plate of oyster omelette is the best that I have ever had. The amount of oil that came together with it kind of killed it though.
Our next stop after walking around is the Hong Kong Jockey Club!
It was two hours later that my parents were done watching six races, and after inhaling a few lungfuls of cigarette smoke each.
Portugese egg tarts that were so good that I had to bring boxes back!
Macanese buns from the same Macau restaurant. I might even go back to have some of this again!
All in all, it was a fulfilling getaway trip. My parents were on the roll, and had refused to let me step into most of the boutiques, saying "How can those clothes even be worn?" After the first night, I pretty much gave up the idea of shopping in Hong Kong. Henceforth, we had an average of six meals a day, and I am sad to say that I have gained a kilogram.......and that it did not manage to bump my BMI up to a healthy range of 18.5.
It was a shame that we did not manage to visit The Peak, or go to places other than their , but I am thankful for the experiences there. It was yet another culture shock! The people there are less than friendly, and it is definitely nowhere near the top of my list of countries to visit.
